Situated in the scenic village of Brithdir, the Meirion Amateur Radio Society (MARS) serves as a vibrant community for radio enthusiasts throughout North Wales. Whether you’re an experienced operator or a curious newcomer, MARS provides a friendly and supportive space to connect, explore, and grow.
But maybe you are not sure what amateur radio is? Well amateur radio is a mix of science, skill, and community—perfect for those curious about radio technology and connecting with others in a meaningful way. Radio Amateurs can talk to others across town or around the world—without relying on the internet or phone networks, many build or modify their own equipment and antennas, making it a hands-on technical hobby.

Operators (often called “hams”) must pass a test and get a license to transmit on amateur frequencies and various modes such as voice, Morse code (CW), digital modes (like FT8 or PSK31), satellite communication, and even bouncing signals off the moon!
Interested but haven’t got a license? No worries the Meirion Amateur Radio Society can help you with this, just contact us or even pop along to one of our meetings!
